***It is very important to test your water weekly with test strips***

TOTAL HARDNESS-CALCIUM CHLORIDE: Pool water requires 180 - 200 ppm Calcium Hardness.  Low hardness will cause corrosion of pipes and equipment high calcium will cause chlorine to loose effectiveness as a sanitizer.  Perfect calcium also aids in longevity of liner life.  To add calcium to your pool, using five gallon plastic bucket mix with water and stir with wooden stake—making sure it is completely dissolved prior to pouring into pool -- use caution this mix is hot—pour into deep end of pool very slowly.

CHLORINE:  When testing your water, both levels of chlorine should be the same on the test strip.  If both levels are low; push BOOST on Auto Pilot or SUPER CHLORINATE ON P4 system.  After the system runs 24 hours producing chlorine, recheck; if necessary repeat.  When generating chlorine it is okay to swim or put pool cleaner in pool.  There is no down time when generating chlorine with salt.

SALT:  Depending on the chlorine generator you have—check the salt level.  Perfect is 3200.  The Auto Pilot will tell you when and how much to add.  If you have the P4 refer to your manual for the amount necessary.  Salt may be added by pouring directly into the deep end of the pool.  It will dissolve.

PH –PH INCREASER/PH DECREASER:  If the ph is lower than 7.2 the pool water is acidic and if left for long periods of time it can corrode the metal in and around the pool.  Acidic water will use up the chlorine in the pool, reducing its ability to sanitize.  If the ph gets above 7.6 it can cause cloudy water, scaling around the water line and in the plumbing:  chlorine becomes lazy and does not do its job as well and algae growth is more prevalent in a high ph.  If you use salt to generate chlorine your ph will have a tendency to run high so ph down is a must to have on hand.  Follow directions on each individual container.

ALKALINITY – SODIUM BICARBONATE (BAKING SODA):  This is the secret to keeping the ph within the recommended levels.  It acts as a buffer for the ph and should be kept between 80 and 120 ppm.  If you have low alkalinity your chlorine will not work or read on the test strip properly.  Once you get the alkalinity in proper range the ph will stabilize.  Alkalinity is lost through dilution due to backwashing, vacuuming to waste, rain, and refilling your pool.  You can broadcast directly across pool or pour directly into skimmer.  Wait 2 hours and recheck level; if necessary repeat.  I recommend starting with 3-5# increments depending on size of pool and how low it is reading on the test strip.  It is better to add more in two hours than add a decrease due to adding too much.

CYANURIC ACID—STABILIZER—CONDITIONER:  This will stabilize your chemical levels and you will use less as long as you maintain your level between 40 and 50.  Please be careful—the only way to remove cyanuric acid is to dilute (lower water, raise water, recheck, and repeat if the level is still high).  High stabilizer will cause your water to become cloudy.  Each time you add 50# of salt, normally you should add 1.5 # of stabilizer—always check level first to verify it is above normal.  This is best to broadcast across pool; it is slow dissolve so it may take a day or two to completely dissolve.  Once it is dissolved, retest water.

ALGAE PREVENTION & REMOVER:  This is an algae prevention and remover.  One bottle lasts 90 days or 3 months.  You will walk around pool and pour entire bottle around edge of pool; repeat in 3 months.

STAIN GUARD:  This will prevent your faceplates from turning yellow due to mineral buildup.  Use ½ bottle every 3 months.  (Recommend to add when adding Algaecide

WIPEOUT:  This cleaner is recommended for the black ring around steps and inside skimmer.  Pour onto a white cotton sock and wipe steps.  Use as necessary.

VINYL CLEANER:  This will keep the liner above the waterline conditioned.  Use according to directions on bottle; use as necessary.

BACKWASH:  It aids in cleaning the sand in the filter.  It removes oils, bacteria, pollen  etc. that is trapped in the sand.  Recommended use is at least twice a year, once in the beginning of season and then again towards the end of the season.  This is poured directly into the skimmer while backwashing.

SUPER BLUE:  This is a water polisher; it adds a very light bluish tint to the water.  It also aids in filtration by allowing the smaller particles that pass through the sand to bond together, therefore allowing them to be trapped in the filter.  It is especially helpful in the spring when filtering pollen.  Use weekly—3-5 ounces depending on pool size.  (16x32=3 oz; 18x36=4oz; 20x40 or 16’6x40=5oz)  This is used weekly and can be diluted or poured directly in front of a return for dilution/distribution.

MURATIC ACID:  This is used to clean the build-up from the cell.  Refer to your owner’s manual for removal.  Mix muratic acid with water in a 5-gallon bucket.  Allow cell to sit in bucket until the fizzing stops.  Remove from bucket and rinse with water hose, replace cell back in plumbing.  Recommended use once a year.  Mix 1 gallon water to 3 gallons water.

PHOSPHATE REMOVER  (not included in package):  If you are unable to raise your chlorine and maintain a regular level you may have phosphates. These are caused by a variety of reasons including using well water in your pool or fertilizer around your pool. You may bring your water in our office to be tested and follow the directions on the bottle.

METAL OUT (not included in package):  Metal Out removes fresh stains caused by metals such as copper, iron and manganese that are present in swimming pool water. Regular use of metal control will also prevent mineral scale formation on pool surfaces, piping and filtration. Those who use well water may need to use 1qt metal out. Follow directions on the back of the bottle.

ANTI-ELECTROLYSIS ZINC ANODE (not included in package): Eliminates plaster staining and metal corrosion due to electrolysis.  A must for salt-water pools. Bolts to ladder and must be changed yearly. Available at our office for $49.00+tax.
